Reformulated Gasoline Season is Coming!

Picture of a gasoline station with four pumpsJust a reminder to all Denver Metro and Northern Front Range gasoline suppliers and retailers – the EPA summer season (May 1 – September 15) is rapidly approaching. That means that all E10 gasoline grades sold in the counties that the EPA has designated as a non-attainment zone MUST meet the reformulated gasoline (RFG) vapor pressure requirement of a maximum of 7.4 psi during that period.

When ordering fuel between May 1 and September 15, make sure that the fuel purchased is documented by the seller as being Summer RFG. Retailers have until June 1 to turn over the non-RFG inventory in their tanks.

RFG is formulated to burn more cleanly than conventional gasoline, so it produces less carbon monoxide and fewer volatile organic compounds. Lowering these ozone-contributing pollutants is an important part of improving air quality in our state.

Not sure if you are in the zone? Check the Denver Metro - North Front Range Ozone Nonattainment Area Map on this page.

Thank you for working with the Division of Oil & Public Safety to comply with EPA requirements and helping to protect our Colorado consumers.
