What to Do If You Believe You Purchased Contaminated Fuel
Drivers who suspect they received contaminated fuel are encouraged to contact the gas station where fuel was purchased to begin the claim filing process directly with the retailer.
The Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS) is committed to protecting consumers. As we continue to process hundreds of consumer complaints, we are also closely monitoring how retailers respond to consumer claims.
OPS has consolidated locations provided by supplier HF Sinclair with OPS-verified sites where consumer complaints have been validated. This list allows impacted drivers to identify where they may have purchased contaminated fuel, so they can begin the remediation process.
What to do if you purchased contaminated fuel:
- Reach out to the gas station where contaminated fuel was purchased to start the claim filing process directly with the retailer.
- Keep all receipts and repair records handy.
- If retailers deny claims of contaminated fuel, or are otherwise being unresponsive, file a complaint with OPS online or by calling 303-866-4967. The consumer complaint form is available in English and Spanish.
